Waterproof tile showers

Getting waterproof tile showers in days gone by was nothing less than a Herculean task. Monumental, impossible, unsurmountable even. Tile is great. It looks great, turns water, people love it. Sure, you have to bleach and clean the grout, but most of us that love tile manage to get over that slight inconvenience. A bigger problem is containing  the moisture within that tiled area, and not having moisture and damage outside that area. Over the years we have seen the damage caused by water outside its intended parameters.  Enter the Schluter waterproof tile shower system.

How to do it

When it comes to tiled showers,  Venture Builders Inc. now uses a system called Schluter to create sealed, waterproof tile showers. It’s a family of products, from drains to shower benches to waterproofing pipe seals that together form a fully bonded, watertight assembly. In order to have a beautiful and durable shower, managing moisture in both liquid and vapor forms is key. Also, tile and grout joints are not completely waterproof, and must be installed  with an accompanying  waterproofing system that effectively manages moisture and prevents mold growth.
The Schluter®-Shower System creates waterproof tile showers by forming  a bonding surface at the top of the shower assembly. This action ensures that the shower base and walls remain completely protected from moisture penetration.
Schluter is faster and simpler to install compared to the traditional system which is time and labor intensive.

Trained installers

So we sent three people to Charlottesville last week to get two days worth of training on the Schluter system. It’s amazing. We don’t want you too have anything else in your new bathroom. Technology that  didn’t exist 20 years ago makes it possible. Waterproof tile showers are a possibility. Now you can have the beauty of tile and rest assured that the water stays where it’s supposed to stay.
